The deputy head of the Taliban political office in Qatar said women could continue in their work but in the top posts or cabinet there “may not” be a woman.
Numerous questions remain about what the Taliban’s rule will look like and mean for Afghanistan.
The economy of Afghanistan is close to collapse with little immediate prospect of the new Islamic rulers gaining access to the country’s foreign currency reserves held in the West.
Prices of essential goods soaring, the value of the currency is falling, and many public services are barely able to function.
